1. You are an employee in a different company or student
If you are a salaried employee whose year-end tax adjustment has been completed by your employer, and your income from side jobs (revenue minus expenses) is 200,000 yen or less per year, you are generally not required to file an income tax return in Japan.
Please note that a separate resident tax filing may still be required.
2. Freelancers
If you are a sole proprietor or freelancer, and your total income (such as business income or miscellaneous income) is 480,000 yen or less per year, it falls within the basic deduction amount (480,000 yen), and you are generally not required to file a tax return in Japan.
