Five Fall Date Night Ideas in Tokyo

2019-10-30
The chilly evenings of fall are the perfect excuse to cozy up with someone special! And with the incredible variety of things to do in Tokyo, you'll always have a reason for a night out. From rooftop bars, to the best concerts, to haunted tours of the city, there's something for everyone.

We've put together a list of our five favorite date night ideas as a little inspiration for you. So, go ahead and book a babysitter and enjoy some one-on-one time!

Dinner and Drinks With a View
There's a reason a nice meal with a couple glasses of wine is a date night staple! Throw in amazing views of Tokyo's endless cityscape, all lit up, and you seriously can't go wrong. Whether you want to see it all from above at Towers, a Ritz-Carlton restaurant in Akasaka, or enjoy the peaceful canals of Shinagawa at T.Y. Harbour, there are several amazing options to choose from. TripAdvisor has a "Top 10" list to check out!

Rock Out
Tokyo is a frequent stop on the international tours of many major bands. If you're lucky enough to get tickets, Mumford and Sons will be at Toyosu PIT on 13 November, U2 heads up a show at the Saitama Super Area on 4 December and Blackpink will play at the Tokyo Dome the same night. If you aren't able to get tickets for the bigger acts (many sell out almost immediately), Tokyo is full of smaller "live house" venues where you can check out up-and-coming or smaller bands. The Tokyo Gig Guide has a great list.  A concert may not be the quietest venue for conversation, but it's a great way to have a great time singing and dancing along to your favorite musicians.

Scare Yourselves Silly
Halloween season may be nearing its end, but that doesn't mean the thrills and chills are over! Despite how flashy and modern Tokyo may seem, it's of course steeped in centuries of spooky history. And if you're interested in taking a tour of some of the scary landmarks, you can check out Haunted Tokyo Tours. Led by a paranormal investigator who shares terrifying tales along the way, the tours are great reasons to keep each other close!

Whip Up a Seasonal Dish
Sweet potatoes, mushrooms, chestnuts, pumpkin - these are the ingredients of fall food in Japan! What better way to enjoy them than taking a cooking class together? Tokyo Cooking Studio offers several scheduled cooking classes (like ramen and gyoza or homemade sushi) or you can work with them to create your own seasonal menu. https://www.tokyocookingstudio.com/

Enjoy the Koyo
Nothing says "Autumn" more than the reds, oranges and yellows of changing leaves. According to the Japan Meteorological Corporation, peak viewing time in Tokyo is expected around 30 November, so you have time to plan your koyo-viewing date (which may be best as a day-date). The foliage in Yoyogi Park is always a crowd-pleaser and conveniently located. If you're interested in a day trip, the nature of Hakone is a must-see! Savvy Tokyo has a good list of the prettiest spots around Tokyo.
