••• Babysitting for families (from 2008 until now)
Among other experiences, I took care of three girls on a regular basis for three years (when I started they were 1, 5 and 7 years old). I babysit them at nights on weekends and on days during the holidays. It involved playing with them, setting creative activities, going on walks or to the playground, taking care of the meals and baths, reading them stories (my favourite part!), putting them to bed and depending on their ages, helping with homework.
I also babysit two boys for four years (2 and 4 years old when I started). I arrived in the morning, helped prepare them to go out, dropped them at the nursery and school and picked them up at the end of day. I took care of snacks, playtime, bath, pot training for the little one and meals before the parents came back from work.
More recently, I have been caring for my friend's children (a girl and a boy). I have been babysitting them since they were born, which involved feeding them, changing the nappies, dressing them, calming them down when they cried, playing with them, bathing them, putting them to bed, and more recently (as they grew up), droping and picking them up from the nursery and the school.
••• English and French teacher (2014, for 6 months)
As part of my studies, I did an internship abroad as an English and French teacher in an elementary school in Peru. I designed the syllabus according to each level, prepared the classes and led them for children from 4 to 11 years old. The school was keen on Montessori and Waldorf methods, and I tried to use them to make the classes as interesting and interactive as possible to engage the children.
••• Camp leader (from 2009 to 2013)
Having myself spent a lot of time at camp when I was young, I decided to get the official certification to lead groups of children (BAFA). I did two weeks of theoretical training (basic and advanced) and led three different camps (each of two weeks long) with EEDF (a non-religious scout organisation), supervising, entertaining and educating groups of children between 7 and 12 years old.
Though childcare is not my professional field, my last job as a manager helped me develop skills like listening to facts as well as emotions, finding the right balance between setting a frame and giving freedom, being open to criticism, understanding that each person has their own needs and ways to deal with situations and adapting to them. Though managing a team of adults is very different from caring for children, I believe those skills help me do a better job as a babysitter!
