Hello. My name is Akane. I was born and raised in Kanagawa, Japan, and have studied and worked in the UK and the US for 3 years. I am fluent in both Japanese and English and speak a little bit of Burmese. I have MA in International Educational Development from Teachers College Columbia University, and have an experience in designing and leading programs regarding peace, human rights and multilingual education.
While in NY, I had 1 year experience of teaching bilingual preschoolers (4-5 years old), and also worked with children ages 2-10 in after-school programs and as a sitter. I also have 1-year volunteer experience working with children of various ages in my neighborhood, and 1.5 years of experience teaching English and Japanese as a tutor for Japanese elementary to high school students. Also, I have taught basic to advanced levels of Japanese for children to adults in both Japan and Myanmar for 2 years in total.
I love playing outdoors, music, arts & crafts, reading and baking with children, and love cleaning! I enjoy learning different cultures and languages, and currently exploring French, Turkish and Burmese.
I strive to connect with children as their friend and cherish their curiosity to explore the world.
