Introduction

Hello! My name is Airi! I am half Japanese and originally from Hawaii. I grew up moving back and forth between Japan and the US, and have spent about equal amounts of time in both countries.
I am comfortable in both Japanese and English.

As someone who comes from a huge family of over 20+ cousins, I have always been surrounded by kids of various ages and I love the excitement and sense of fulfilment that comes with taking care of children.

In terms of work experience, in college, I babysat children between the ages of 2 and 10 years old, mainly with Japanese families that had recently moved to the US. I also worked as a writing tutor for middle students and volunteered as an educator with the Peer Health Exchange. After graduating and moving to Japan, I spent three years teaching at a school in Hiroshima, focusing on test prep and speech/presentation skills.

I enjoy spending my free time both indoor and outdoors, and some of my main hobbies include cooking, baking, crafts, and outdoor activities like hiking and snowboarding. While cooking is mainly my way of relieving stress, I also have some work experience in the kitchen and can offer meal prep help, as well as cooking and/or baking lessons for your children.

Experience

I regularly baby-sitted a 2-year-old and 5-year-old (at the same time) during my time in college to earn extra money. Their parents had recently moved to the US, so they could only speak in Japanese at the time. I used both English and Japanese with the kids so that they could get used to living in the US.

I also tutored middle school kids in writing twice a week during my time at university, and also volunteered as an educator for Peer Health Exchange, which offered health education to under-resourced high schools.

After college, I worked as an English teacher at both a Japanese high school and special needs school in Hiroshima prefecture. At the high school, I focused on teaching test prep and speech/presentation skills. At the school for children with special needs, I taught kids from ages 5 to 15 at various levels, so my lessons mainly focused on cultural themes including hula lessons.
